Portland Environmental Services is a bureau in Portland, Oregon tasked with managing the city’s waste and stormwater as well as restoring watersheds and streams.[3] The current director is set to retire in March 2025.[4]
As of 2025, the city is working on a plan to merge Portland Environmental Services and the Portland Water Bureau into a single bureau.[4] This initiative, called “One Water,” was set in motion by former mayor Ted Wheeler.[5]
History
[edit]In 2019, the city won an environmental stewardship award based on a salmon restoration project led by this bureau.[6]
The bureau’s former seven-year partnership with local nonprofit Friends of Trees was not renewed in 2021 after disagreements between Environmental Services and Portland Parks & Recreation.[7]
