The Pop Music Portal

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. During the 1950s and 1960s, pop music encompassed rock and roll and the youth-oriented styles it influenced. Rock and pop music remained roughly synonymous until the late 1960s, after which pop became associated with music that was more commercial, ephemeral, and accessible.

Identifying factors of pop music usually include repeated choruses and hooks, short to medium-length songs written in a basic format (often the verse–chorus structure), and rhythms or tempos that can be easily danced to. Trainor in 2020

Meghan Elizabeth Trainor (born December 22, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter and television personality. She rose to prominence after signing with Epic Records in 2014 and releasing her debut single "All About That Bass", which reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold 11 million copies worldwide. Trainor has released six studio albums with the label and has received various accolades, including a Grammy Award, four ASCAP Pop Music Awards, and two Billboard Music Awards.

Trainor became interested in music at a young age; she recorded three independently released acoustic albums and began writing and producing songs for other artists from 2013. In 2015, Trainor released her pop and hip hop major-label debut studio album, Title, which included the top-10 singles "Lips Are Movin" and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You"; it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. The single "No" led her follow-up album, the R&B Thank You (2016), both of which reached number three on the respective charts. In 2020, Trainor released the electronic dance music-influenced album Treat Myself and the holiday album A Very Trainor Christmas. She followed these with the doo-wop and bubblegum pop albums Takin' It Back (2022) and Timeless (2024). Fortune is the fifth studio album by American singer Chris Brown. It was released on July 3, 2012, through RCA Records. Production was handled by Brown himself and several record producers, including the Underdogs, Polow da Don, Brian Kennedy, the Runners, the Messengers, H-Money, Danja, and Benny Benassi. The album also features several guest appearances, including Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Nas, Sevyn Streeter, and Kevin McCall.

Originally scheduled for release six months after the release of Brown's fourth studio album F.A.M.E. on March 22, 2011, Fortune was pushed back several times before it was finally given a release date in July 2012. The album's aesthetics feature a heavy usage of blue, suggesting a futuristic mood, that detaches itself from the graffiti imagery of Brown's precedent two albums. The music consists of R&B and pop, containing pronounced elements of electronic music, while the lyrical content concentrates on sex, promiscuity, hedonism, clubbing and romantic love. The album received generally negative reviews from music critics, several of whom panned the lyrical content, though some critics were complimentary towards the production. "Like a Virgin" is a song recorded by American singer Madonna from her second album of the same name. The song was written and composed by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg, and it was released as the album's lead single on October 31, 1984. A dance song with two hooks, Madonna sings in a high register while a continuous arrangement of synths are heard along the bassline. The song's lyrics are ambiguous, consisting of hidden innuendos and open to various interpretations.

Upon release, "Like a Virgin" received positive reviews from music critics, who frequently singled out Madonna's vocals. It became her first number-one in the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in Australia and Canada, while reaching the top ten elsewhere; "Like a Virgin" has sold over six million copies worldwide.
