Bengaluru is one of the fastest-growing metropolises in India. As of 2023[update], the metropolitan area had an estimated GDP of $359.9 billion, and is one of the most productive metro areas of India. The city is a major center for information technology (IT), and is consistently ranked amongst the world's fastest growing technology hubs. It is widely regarded as the "Silicon Valley of India", as the largest hub and exporter of IT services in the country. Someshwara temples were built by the Chalukyas of Kalyani in Karnataka. During that period, we see Tamil inscriptions as a few Mudaliars (Tuluva Vellala) were settled. These Mudaliars had settled in parts of TN especially Arcot. The temple is being managed by the Muzarai department. (Full article...)
The place is mentioned as Ballalapura thanda in a record dated 1598 from the local Adinarayana temple. It might have originated from the Hoysala name Ballala, and later become corrupted as Ballapura. It is also believed that the village derived its name from a cow used to drop one 'balla' of milk over a certain anthill and this omen led to the foundation of the town. Namma Metro (transl. Our Metro), also known as Bangalore Metro or Bengaluru Metro, is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bengaluru, the capital city of the state of Karnataka, India. It is the second-longest operational metro network in India with an operational length of 76.95 kilometres (47.81 mi), behind Delhi Metro. Upon its inauguration in 2011, it became the first metro system in South India, and subsequently in 2016, the first underground metro in South India as well. Namma Metro has a mix of underground, at grade, and elevated stations. Out of the 68 operational metro stations of Namma Metro as of November 2024, there are 59 elevated stations, eight underground stations and one at-grade station. The system runs on standard-gauge tracks.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the State Government of Karnataka, is the agency for building, operating and expanding the Namma Metro network. Services operate daily between 05:00 and 24:00 running with a headway varying between 3–15 minutes. The trains initially began with three coaches but later grew to six coaches as ridership increased. Power is supplied by 750Vdirect current through third rail. As of March 2024, the metro system had an average daily ridership of about 636,000 passengers. The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, also known as KPTCL, is the sole electricity transmission and distribution company in state of Karnataka. Its origin was in Karnataka Electricity Board. Until 2002, the Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) handled electricity transmission and distribution across the state. It was then broken up, with Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) established to manage the transmission business. This electricity transmission and distribution entity was corporatised to provide efficient and reliable electric power supply to the people of Karnataka state.
