Pleistacantha oryx is a species of spider crab. It has a different distribution pattern from Pleistacantha maxima, with its range requiring clarification following the separation of these previously confused species.[1]
Description
[edit]The carapace is pyriform with a postrostral carapace length to width ratio ranging from 1.33–1.43 (mean 1.37) for mature specimens. The gastric and branchial spines are relatively short, being shorter than the anterior hepatic spine. The dorsal surface is covered with small acute granules rather than the numerous spinules found in Pleistacantha maxima. This species is notably smaller than Pleistacantha maxima, exceeding 32 mm in postrostral carapace length.[1]
