[edit]

Agriculture is the primary livelihood: most residents work as cultivators, growing rice, maize, and pulses. In Lower Phaibung, 99.66 % of the workforce are engaged in main agricultural activities.[1]

Administration

[edit]

The village is governed by a local Gram Panchayat under the Chillivai Phaibung TD Block of Senapati district.[7] It falls within the Purul Assembly Constituency for the Manipur Legislative Assembly and is part of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.[8]

Language and culture

[edit]

Local residents of Phaibung speak Meitei as the official language of the region, which is indicated as the widely used lingua franca in Senapati district.[9] Many belong to Naga ethnic communities, with the Tangkhul people being prominent. While they have their own Tangkhulic languages, they also commonly use Meitei for communication across communities.[10]
