In modern sources, it is variously treated as a valid species,[1][2] or more often, as a subspecies Nyctemera carissima formosana[3][4] or Nyctemera muelleri formosana.[5] It is found in Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands of Japan (Iriomote Island[1]).[3]
