Nuremberg is an upcoming American historical drama film written and directed by James Vanderbilt. Based on The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai, it follows psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek) who is challenged with determining if Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) is fit to stand at the Nuremberg trials.

The film will have its world premiere in the Gala Presentations section of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, and is scheduled to be released in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics on November 7, 2025.

Premise

During the Nuremberg trials, chief psychiatrist Douglas Kelley interviews Nazi prisoners to determine whether they are fit to stand trial. There, he enters a "battle of wits" against Adolf Hitler's right-hand man, Hermann Göring.

It was announced in December 2023 that James Vanderbilt was set to write and direct the film, with Rami Malek, Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon set to star.[2] Additional casting including Richard E. Grant, Leo Woodall, John Slattery and Colin Hanks was announced in January and February 2024.[3][4]

Filming began in Budapest in February 2024, and had wrapped by May 2024.[5][6]

Release

In June 2025, Sony Pictures Classics acquired North American and worldwide airline rights to the film and scheduling it for a release in the United States on November 7, 2025.[7]
