National Social Science Documentation Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC) is established in 1970[1] as a division of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). It serves as an information and support unit for researchers in the field of social sciences.[2] It provides library and documentation services to scholars affiliated with academic institutions, autonomous research organisations, government departments, policy and planning units, and industry.[3]

NASSDOC has an automated library system, a web-based Online Public Access Catalogue (WebOPAC), and subscriptions to a wide range of online databases and electronic resources. NASSDOC also supports libraries of ICSSR Regional Centres and ICSSR-supported Research Institutes.[citation needed]

Controversy

[edit]

In August 2004, thousands of books and theses were allegedly burnt when the centre moved to a new building for lack of space.[5] In November 2011, the centre's library space made way for a peace centre, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP).[6]
