Mobius (Chinese: 不眠日) is an upcoming Chinese Sci-fi time-travel whodunit series, starring Bai Jingting, Janice Man and Song Yang in the lead roles.[1] It is adapted from Zhang Xiaomao's novel "Ni Shi Zhen Cha Zu” meaning "Time Reversal Detective Squad".[2] It centers on a detective who inadvertently acquires the supernatural ability to time travel five times a day. Bound by a structured cycle that repeats only five times, he utilizes this skill to prevent crimes.[3][4]
Plot
[edit]Detective Ding Qi accidentally acquires the ability to loop through time, allowing him to relive a single day up to five times. These are not infinite loops—each cycle resets at midnight, and everyone loses all memory of previous iterations, except for a select few who retain vague fragments. Ding Qi leverages the first four iterations to gather clues and evidence, enabling him to prevent crimes by the final loop. The plot intensifies when a cryptic murder warning surfaces from a suspect named "X". Ding Qi begins to suspect that X might also possess time-looping abilities, given the suspect’s seemingly flawless crimes. As the investigation deepens, it connects to a genetic research corporation, entangling people close to him. Ding Qi's special ability makes him both invincible and fragile; each cycle tests his inner tenacity and unwavering determination, while allowing him deeper insight into his own powers. Thus begins an intense pursuit across time and space, as Ding Qi and his team race to gradually unravel the mystery that could alter their reality.[5][6]

- Ultimate Cycle Day: The 5th and final loop, the most challenging cycle due to the presence of others like Ding Qi, who retains their memories and continuously alter the course of events.[9]
- Mobius Strip: Where the detective's pursuit and the villain's evasion form an endless, cyclical pattern in the cracks of time and space.[10]

Reception
[edit]In 2025, Mobius became a highly anticipated release on iQIYI, integrating crime-solving with a distinctive sci-fi premise.[15][16] It has generated positive reactions for its intense action sequences, mysterious tone and high production values.[17][18] The trailer generated enough buzz, with 3M views across major social platform and with a reading volume of over 100M, audience were intrigued by the sci-fi suspense plot.[19] Main casts Bai Jingting, Janice Man and Song Yang were considered a strong trio.[20][21] Bai Jingting’s intense portrayal of the detective and the unrevealed role of Janice Man sparked curiosity.[22][23] On Douban after the official trailer was released, the series received over 100,000 reservations within a day.[24][25]
Production
[edit]Mobius series is a joint production among iQIYI, Youhug Media and Leben Wenhua.[26] On March 2025, the filming of the series was wrapped, which took place in Guangdong; the production utilized urban and industrial settings to reflect the story’s modern and mysterious tone.[27][28] Director Liu Zhangmu utilised illumination, contrast and color to effectively differentiate the progression of the time cycle.[29] He mentioned that certain scenes were set in Hong Kong and Macau, which required Bai Jingting to learn Cantonese for his role.[30] On 17 March 2025, the first trailer unveiled at the Hong Kong TV Festival.[31] On 24 April 2025, the official trailer was showcased at the iQIYI World Conference.[32]
