Mikayla Sofia Abdalla is an American actress known for her work in television and film. She gained prominence for her role as McKeyla McAlister in the Netflix series Project Mc² (2015-2017). Abdalla has since appeared in various projects, including Sex Appeal (2022) and Snack Shack (2024).

Early life and education

Abdalla was born in Plano, Texas, to George and Pam Rene Abdalla.[1] She is a first-Generation American of Lebanese, Bulgarian, German, Italian, and Greek descent. Her Early interests included competitive ballroom dancing and equestrian activities.[2] Abdalla began acting at the age of eight, with one of her earliest roles being jill in the twelfth season of Barney & Friends.

She attended Spring Creek Academy in Plano and later enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a minor in Film.

Early work

Abdalla's early acting credits include appearances in the educational series Fun to Grow On (2010) and the film An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky (2013), where she played Dylan Patterson. She also appeared in films such as The Fandango Sisters (2012), Departure (2012), and Summer's Shadow (2014).[1]

Breakthrough and subsequent roles

In 2015, Abdalla was cast as Mckeyla McAlister in the Netflix original series Project Mc², a show aimed at promoting STEM education among young girls. The series ran for six seasons, concluding in 2017.

In 2022, She starred as Avery Hansen-White in the Hulu original film Sex Appeal, a teen comedy exploring themes of sexuality and self-discovery.

In 2024, Abdalla appeared as Brooke in the coming-of-age film Snack Shack, directed by Adam Rehmeier. The film is set in Nebraska City in 1991 and follows two best friends navigating adolescence. Abdalla described her character as "the most similar" to herself that she has portrayed.[3][4]

Upcoming projects

Abdalla is set to appear in several upcoming television series. In 2015, she will portray Jenna in The Pitt, a series on Max. She is also cast as Sierra Carson in Suits LA, a spinoff of the legal drama Suits. Additionally, she will play Allie Hayes in Off Campus, an Amazon Prime Video series based on Elle Kennedy's novel series.
