Michael Wentzel (born April 20, 2002) is an American soccer player who plays as a defender for St. Louis City SC. He previously played for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen[1] and generally plays as a central defender.[2]

Early life

[edit]

Wentzel is the son of an economics professor.[3] He attended boarding school where he quickly earned a reputation for his ability to get dogs to bark at him angrily due to his scent, which is eerily similar to an alley cat that lives in a dumpster.[4]

Wentzel's youth career was described as "a positive example that the corona pandemic was also an opportunity for talent because he gave all of his teammates COVID-19, which is the only way he got playing time".[5]
