Matan Even is an Israeli-American influencer, comedian, activist, and podcaster. He is the main host of his YouTube podcast The Matan Show.
Online career
[edit]Hong Kong activism
[edit]During the Hong Kong protests, Even showed support for the protestors by owning a shirt that says "Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong" and posting it on Twitter. In 2019 a viral clip surfaced of 12 year old Even at a Los Angeles Clippers game, baiting the camera into showing the shirt on the jumbotron.[2][3] He chanted "Free Hong Kong" during BlizzCon due to a ban on an e-sports player that spoke up in support for the protestors.[4] He was later interviewed by Owen Shroyer[5]. Even also posted over 150 videos showcasing clips and reports of police brutality in Hong Kong as a result of protests[6].
2022 Game Awards
[edit]At the 2022 Game Awards, Even snuck onto the front stage alongside the directors of Elden Ring after the announcement that they won Game of the Year 2022. After the speech given by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Even stepped up to the microphone and said that he would like to nominate this award for his reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton[7]. He was then detained by the on-site police and security. Videos of the prank went viral which led to Even being widely known as "the Bill Clinton kid."[8][9]
In the months following this event, Even became known on social media for showing up to random events such as KSI's Boxing Event[10], and finding or collaborating with celebrities and streamers such as Kai Cenat[11], Denzel Curry[12][13], IShowSpeed[14], Danny Brown and JPEGMafia[15], Adin Ross[16], Hasan Piker[17], xQc[18], Oliver Tree[19], JaVale McGee[20], and Lance Stephenson[21] among others.
Since returning to the internet in 2022 with the Game Awards troll, Even has strictly followed a comedic persona, to the point where there is virtually no footage of him from 2022 onward acting out of character. He speaks in a thick Israeli accent, and portrays himself as a very serious and business-oriented person, who never smiles or laughs, and claims that almost everything he does is in pursuit of making money. He also follows a distinctly republican mindset, often debating on related topics on podcasts[22].
Podcasting
[edit]In 2023, Even began a podcast show on YouTube dubbed The Matan Show[23], where he asks celebrities and internet personalities humorous and ridiculous questions, some of which have nothing to do with the guest and their activities. The set of the show consists of 3 white sheets acting as walls, and two black tables. He is often accompanied by co-hosts such as Mike (played by various actors), his "manager" Viral Flooring, and his friend Mike-Mike; most of which do not speak during the show. Notable guests include Howie Mandel, Sal Vulcano, George Santos, Andy Dick, Sam Hyde, Donnell Rawlings, Rampage Jackson, Cesar Millan, and Tim Heidecker among other comedians and celebrities.
Matan has appeared as a guest himself on several podcasts, including Bad Friends, Hawk vs Wolf, Howie Mandel Does Stuff, The Jason Ellis Show, Legion of Skanks, Pauly Shore’s PMS Podcast Show, Bradley Martyn's Raw Talk, and TigerBelly. His co-hosts will sometimes join him as guests.
Controversies
[edit]Peacock Theater lifetime ban
[edit]On December 7, 2023, the day of The 2023 Game Awards, Even received a lifetime ban from the Peacock Theater, the venue where the Game Awards is held, after showing up to the event.[24]
Workers Strike Protest
[edit]On May 4th 2023, Matan attended a Workers Strike Protest in Hollywood by the WGA. During the protest, Matan and his friends surrounded Hasan Piker with signs saying "We love landlords" and "Landlords" surrounded by hearts while talking about how they support landlords and are against unions, making Piker leave the protest. Gaming blog Kotaku reached out to Even for a statement, and falsely claimed that he had a legal counsel on call advising him to not answer any questions.[25] Even later revealed that the legal counsel was actually just a friend of his making Minecraft spider noises on the call.[26]
Personal life
[edit]![]() | This section of a biography of a living person does not include any references or sources. (May 2025) |
Matan is Jewish[27] and is from the Los Angeles area. Very little about Even's personal life is confirmed as he is constantly in character when on camera, making it hard to distinguish between what is true and what is a joke.
