The Marrakech Air Show, formerly known as AeroExpo Marrakech, is an international event dedicated to the aerospace and space sector. It has been held biennially since its inception in 2008, at the military air base in Marrakech, Morocco.[1]

The air show is co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the National Defense Administration, and the company MEDZ. It attracts both civilian and military delegations, decision-makers, and major aerospace companies from around the world.[2]

Objectives

[edit]

The event aims to encourage dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders in the aerospace industry, with a focus on the African continent. It serves as a platform for technological innovation, industrial partnership development, and the promotion of foreign and domestic investment in Morocco’s aviation sector.[3]

The show features static and flying displays of civil and military aircraft. It includes professional conferences, technical workshops, and business meetings between companies, institutions, and armed forces. Flight demonstrations cover a wide range of operations, such as aerobatics, in-flight refueling, parachute drops, and specialized missions including aerial firefighting and rescue hoisting.[4]

The aerial component regularly includes foreign aerobatic teams and the Moroccan national display team, "La Marche verte."

Development and editions

[edit]

Since 2008, the Marrakech Air Show has seen steady growth in the number of exhibitors and represented countries.[5]

The 2024 edition took place from October 30 to November 2, drawing 194 exhibitors and nearly 30,000 visitors. Major international aerospace manufacturers such as Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Thales, Embraer, Safran, CATIC, Tata Advanced Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, General Electric, and Air France Industries participated in the event.[2][6]

This edition was marked by the signing of several industrial agreements, including a strategic partnership between Boeing and the Moroccan government for the creation of an advanced manufacturing facility.[1] Additional agreements focused on maintenance and training were signed with companies such as Embraer and Safran.[7]

Impact

[edit]

The Marrakech Air Show contributes to the growth of the Moroccan aerospace industry by supporting the development of industrial ecosystems in areas such as Nouaceur and Midparc. It also facilitates Morocco’s integration into global aerospace value chains.[8]
