Lokah – Chapter One: Chandra is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language superhero film directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films.[2] The film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan in her first superhero role, alongside Naslen in the lead.[3] The cast also includes Nishanth Sagar, Raghunath Paleri, Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, Vijayaraghavan, Nithya Shri, and Sarath Sabha.[4]

Lokah - Chapter 1: Chandra is the seventh production venture of Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films.[3][2] It is touted as the first full-fledged Malayalam superhero cinematic universe, with ambitions for multiple chapters.[3][7] Dulquer Salmaan aims to redefine Malayalam cinema by building an indigenous cinematic universe rooted in local culture, folklore, and mythology.[8][9] Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen joined as the main cast. Kalyani Priyadarshan practiced martial arts for the film.[10]

The film is written and directed by Dominic Arun, known for Tharangam (2017).[11][12] Dominic Arun stated that the idea for the film was discussed as early as 2020 and developed organically, emphasizing that creating a female superhero was not a deliberate attempt to break the mold.[11] Santhy Balachandran has contributed to the additional screenplay.[11][4]

The film's pre-production began on September 13, 2024.[13] Principal photography commenced with a muhurat pooja ceremony on September 12, 2024.[13][14] The shooting for the film was completed by January 30, 2025.[15] Shooting lasted for 94 days.[16]

The technical crew includes Nimish Ravi as the cinematographer,[4] Chaman Chakko as the editor,[4] Jakes Bejoy for music,[4] Banglan as the production designer,[4] and Yannick Ben handling action choreography.[4] Melwy J, who worked on Bramayugam and Minnal Murali, is handling costume design, collaborating with Archana Akhil Rao for specific sequences, including Kalyani Priyadarshan's looks.[11] Jom Varghese and Bibin Perumballi are serving as executive producers.[2][3]

The first-look poster of Lokah - Chapter 1: Chandra was unveiled on June 8, 2025, by Dulquer Salmaan, introducing Kalyani Priyadarshan in a powerful, never-before-seen superhero avatar, marking a bold departure from her previous roles.[17][3][18] The poster features Kalyani in a battle-ravaged landscape, while Naslen appears amidst the chaos, hinting at high-stakes conflict and emotional intensity.[18] The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 15, 2025, during the Onam festival period.[19][20] The film is expected to kickstart a new cinematic universe for Malayalam cinema.[9]
