Livia Maria Millhagen (born 23 May 1973) is a Swedish actress.
Millhagen attended Kungsholmens gymnasium and participated in several Stockholms Student Theatre productions after finishing upper secondary school. She trained in acting at the Malmö Theatre Academy, graduating in 1999. She made her feature film debut with Miffo (2003), for which she was nominated for a Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. The same year, she joined the Royal Dramatic Theatre's permanent ensemble and has since appeared in numerous stage productions there, as well as others at the Stockholm City Theatre, Uppsala City Theatre , and Maximteatern. In 2019, she received Svenska Dagbladet's Thalia Prize for her performance as Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Royal Dramatic Theatre. She has also been awarded a Litteris et Artibus medal in recognition of "outstanding contributions to theatre."
Early life and education
[edit]She was born in Stockholm on 23 May 1973 to Lars Millhagen and Beate Sydhoff . Her father was an artist and her mother was a director at The House of Culture.[1][2] She lived in Washington, D.C. for three years while her mother worked at the Swedish embassy. After moving back to Sweden, she attended Kungsholmens gymnasium.[3] She had roles in several Stockholms Student Theatre productions before being admitted to the Malmö Theatre Academy in the autumn of 1995.[4][5][6] She graduated in 1999.[7]
Career
[edit]In 1997, she had an internship at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.[7] During this time, she appeared in a production of August Strindberg's Fadren, directed by Staffan Valdemar Holm.[8]
Millhagen has also been engaged at the Uppsala City Theater where she has appeared in Birgitta Englin 's plays Ur funktion and Elektra.[9][10]
She joined the Royal Dramatic Theatre's permanent ensemble in 2003.[2]
In the spring of 2008, she appeared in the play Den allvarsamma leken at Stockholm City Theatre.[11]
She made her feature film debut in Miffo (2003). Her performance was praised by Eva af Geijerstam in Dagens Nyheter and earned her a Guldbagge Best Actress nomination.[12]
She and Jonas Karlsson played Marianne and Johan, respectively, in a 2009 stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergmans's 1973 miniseries Scenes from a Marriage. The production, directed by Stefan Larsson , premiered at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.[13]
She was awarded a Litteris et Artibus medal in 2015 by King Carl XVI Gustaf, in recognition of outstanding contributions to theatre.[14]
In 2019, she appeared in Richard Hobert's Faroese drama Fågelfångarens son . In a generally negative review for Dagens Nyheter, Johan Croneman nevertheless praised Millhagen's "brilliant" work as a "lively and domineering innkeeper."[15] The same year, she won Svenska Dagbladet's Thalia Prize for her performance as Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.[16]
Personal life
[edit]She and her husband Oscar Norbeck have two children.[17]
