Early life and education
[edit]Mintz earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Union College in 1982, receiving the George H. Catlin Prize for academic excellence. During her undergraduate years, she co-founded the campus Woman's Network (now the Women's Union), volunteered at a local rape crisis center, and served as a Big Sister to local youth.[14] She then completed an M.A. (1984) and Ph.D. (1987) in counseling psychology at Ohio State University.[15]
Academic and clinical career
[edit]Mintz joined the University of Florida faculty in October 2011 after spending 21 years at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where she rose from assistant to full professor and served five years as Training Director for the American Psychological Association-accredited Counseling Psychology program.[16] Mintz has also worked in private practice for over 30 years, providing therapy to individuals and couples for both general mental health and sexual concerns.[10]
Books
[edit]Mintz's first trade title, A Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex (2009), explores psychological approaches to addressing low sexual desire among women.[17]
Her second book, Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters—And How to Get It, was published by HarperOne, an imprint of HarperCollins, on May 9, 2017. The book includes a detailed section on female anatomy, examines common misconceptions about the female orgasm, and outlines techniques intended to improve sexual experiences. The book presents an informational perspective on sexual intimacy, focusing on individual behavior and broader social views.[8][18][19] It has been noted in reviews for its research-based content and accessible treatment of topics related to female sexuality.[4][20]
