La Roche-Posay (French pronunciation: [la ʁɔʃ pozɛ]) is a commune in the Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France.
Situated in the Vienne region of France, La Roche-Posay is renowned as the European capital of Hydro-Dermatology. The town’s thermal spa and mineral waters, famous for their unique healing properties, have been cherished for centuries. The town’s history dates back to the 14th century, with a legend involving Breton knight Bertrand Du Guesclin and his horse. According to the tale, after stopping at the mineral springs to drink, the horse emerged with noticeably improved skin. This event marked the discovery of the spring's exceptional soothing, softening, and antioxidant benefits. Over time, La Roche-Posay’s spring water has continued to be celebrated for its therapeutic qualities. In 1617, Pierre Milto, an advisor to Henry IV and Louis XIII, visited the town to study the springs. Later, Napoleon established a thermal hospital there to treat soldiers returning from Egypt. [3]
