Kokila Kaushiklate

Kokila Kaushiklate (born 17 October 2003)[1] is a visually challenged para athlete from Haryana, India. She won a bronze medal in the Judo Women's 48-kg J2 event at the 2022 Asian Para Games held at Gangzhou, China.[2][3][4] She represented India at the Paralympics in Paris 2024 where India made its debut in para judo.[5]

Early life and education

Kaushiklate is from Kasun village in Jind district but currently resides in Azad Nagar, Hisar, Haryana. Her father is a teacher and her mother is a social worker.[2] She is studying Class 12 in the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Rupana village, Haryana.[2] She is an 'Indusind for Sports' trainee.[6] She is also supported by sports NGO, Olympic Gold Quest.[7]

Career

Kaushiklate first won an international medal at the Commonwealth Judo Championships winning a silver medal in 2019.[6] Her bronze medal in the 48 kg J2 event at Asian Para Games got her a quota place in the Paralympics.[8] Thus, she was part of the two member Indian team that made its debut in judo at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. While she represented India in the Women’s 48Kg J2 category, Kapil Parmar took part in men's 60kg J1 category.[5] She lost to Yuliia Ivanytska of Ukraine in the 2nd repechage round, Akmaral Nauatbek of Kazakh beat her in the quarterfinals. For the Indian it is a learning experience at a big stage as she lost both the bouts 0-10.[9]

Kaushiklate is a three time Indian national champion.[10]
