Klaus Bytzek

Klaus Bytzek (b. 1937, Germany) is a Canadian entrepreneur, former racing driver, published author and patron of the arts. His accomplishments span automotive engineering, motorsport, horse racing, fine arts, literature, and philanthropy.

Early life and immigration

Born in Germany, Bytzek immigrated to Canada in 1955 at the age of 18. Motivated by a drive for independence and innovation, he pursued entrepreneurial endeavors, securing patents in automotive engineering.[1]

Motorsport career

Bytzek began racing sports carsin the 1960s alongside his brother, Harry Bytzek, a well-known classic car collector and driver. After a hiatus, Klaus returned to competitive racing in the 1990s, winning four Canadian national championships. In 2000 and 2001, he participated in the IMSA 24 Hours of Daytona, driving a Porsche GT1.[2]

Equestrian ventures

Bytzek, along with his first wife, Patricia McGill, established Flying Children Farms, a standardbred horse racing and training operation. The farm achieved notable successes, including victories with Elvira Childer of the $175,000 New Jersey Classic for two-year-old filly’s and with Cher A Like, (owned by brother Harry Bytzek), the latter named Canada’s two-year-old filly of the year. Bytzek’s contributions to horse racing were featured in a TSN biography.[3]

Yachting and design

Bytzek developed a passion for yachting, leading to the acquisition and redesign of motor yachts to suit the shallow waters of The Bahamas.

Literary contributions

In 2014, Bytzek published his debut novel, Inigma in Blue, a first effort that reflects his storytelling skills.[4] He is currently working on a novella titled Other Voices.

Artistic pursuits and philanthropy

Bytzek is a dedicated supporter of the arts, particularly classical ballet. His involvement with the Oakville Ballet Company included sponsoring and restructuring productions of Paquita and La Bayadère in 2016.[5]
