Talha Anjum, a rapper, released his album My Terrible Mind in 2024. While he was discussing the visual representation for the album with the director Abdul Wali Baloch, they planned to make a short film instead of the traditional music video. He called it a concept of hardships one faces while growing up in Karachi.[3][7][8]

The film is a cinematic debut for both, Anjum and Kinza Hashmi, who play the lead pair, while Imran Ashraf plays the role of a villain. It is also the directorial debut film for Baloch, who is originally a music video director. Anjum also served as an executive producer, while Dilawar Baloch as the film producer, Noor Turk as the cinematographer, and Bilal Sagar as the film editor.[4][5][1][a]

Umair from Young Stunners band provided the music. Reportedly, the film soundtrack features four songs from the album My Terrible Mind, including "Good Fellas", "Heartbreak Kid", "30 Shooter", and "Departure Lane".[7][a]

Release

[edit]

The film was released on 20 December 2024 by Hum Films,[4] few days after the film teaser.[9] It had a premiere event in Karachi, a day before its release, and reportedly, it failed to gain the commercial success.[10]

Mohammad Kamran Jawaid of Dawn commented, "And they might have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that darn 'kattar' amateurism that plagues Karachi, Punjab and Pakistani filmmakers."[1] Muhammad Suhayb of Youlin Magazine called that the screenplay is "written in haste" and the director "forgot to look into the story", but praised the role of Talha Anjum.[5]
