Jayme Amatnecks (born 22 December 1966, in Ponta Grossa) is a Brazilian composer and conductor. He taught at Potiguar University from 2005 to 2011 and was twice elected to Ponta Grossa's Municipal Council of Culture.[1][2][3][4]
Education
[edit]Amatnecks studied under Gabriel de Paula Machado, Lucia Passos, Hans-Gerhard Rottmann,[3] and Hans-Joachim Koellreutter.[5] He also performed in chamber groups such as the UEPG Choir, the Unisinos Choir, and the Theatro Guaira Choir.[6][7]
Career
[edit]In 1987, Amatnecks founded the children's choir at Ponta Grossa State University.[8] In 1999, he organized the Vox Pop Choir and the Ministry of Culture's Camerata Ars Música, both promoting Brazilian music.[3] He conducted the Symphony Orchestra of Ponta Grossa for three years, from 2002 to 2005.[9] From 2005 to 2011, he taught at Potiguar University (UnP), where he directed multiple choirs, including the CEIC[expand acronym] Choir, the St. Cecilia Women's Choir, the AFENAB/AABB[expand acronym] Choir, and the Federal Court of Rio Grande do Norte Choir.[2] He served two terms on Ponta Grossa's Municipal Council of Culture.[1] He also initiated a public school program in Ponta Grossa that expanded the choral curriculum to include a greater diversity of cultural music and led to the formation of at least 83 choirs in the process.[3]
In 2013, Amatnecks served as a member of the international jury for the VII Chorus Inside 'Advent' Festival in Rome.[10][11][12] In 2014, he led a workshop on Osvaldo Lacerda for singers and conductors during the X Chorus Inside Festival 'Summer' in Chieti, Italy.[13] In 2015, he conducted a version of Duerme Negrito with the Camerata Ars Música, featuring Emiglio Solé. This performance was later included in the short film Paseo de los Melancólicos 9, 3º B: 28005 Madrid,[14] which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.[15][16] Amatnecks has received two awards for artistic merit: the Ponta Grossa Anita Philipovsky Prize[17] and the State of Paraná Sower Prize. He has released six CDs[citation needed] and published three children's books through Arco Publishing House in Curitiba: Christmas Gloria,[18] Tic, Tac, Zoin – A History of the Sounds,[19] and A Gift For Mom.[20]
Amatnecks has composed a number of his own works for orchestra, a cappella, piano, guitar, and other ensembles. These include "O Aviso a José", "O Cântico de Maria", "Gloria", "Oração de São Francisco", Polifonicus mundi", and "A Visita dos Reis".[citation needed]
On 8 December 2013, he proclaimed World Choral Singing Day at the Roman Pantheon.[21]
