J&J Global Fulfilment (originally founded as James and James Fulfilment) is a British third-party logistics provider headquartered in Northampton, England. The company offers ecommerce fulfilment services alongside a proprietary cloud-based order and warehouse management system. It supports global fulfilment through a network of both owned and partner-operated fulfilment centres across multiple regions.
History
[edit]J&J Global Fulfilment was originally founded as James and James Fulfilment in 2010 by James Hyde and James Strachan.[1] Both founders studied engineering at the University of Cambridge and briefly worked at the online honey retailer Green Bay Harvest before starting the company.[2]
The initial aim was to develop a warehouse management system (WMS) that could be licensed to other third-party logistics providers and ecommerce warehouses. Strachan developed the software, later branded ControlPort, while Hyde focused on sales and marketing. However, early conversations with prospective clients revealed a demand not just for the software, but for end-to-end fulfilment services as well.[2]
In response, Hyde and Strachan rented a small area within a warehouse in Cambridge to begin offering fulfilment directly to clients. As demand grew, the company shifted away from a purely SaaS model to focus on integrated fulfilment operations, while continuing to enhance its software capabilities.
In 2016, the company opened its first international fulfilment centre in Columbus, Ohio, marking the beginning of its expansion into North America.[3] Two years later, in 2018, James and James Fulfilment was included in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100, which ranks the UK’s fastest-growing private companies by sales growth.[4] In 2019, the company was also recognised in the Financial Times FT1000, a list of Europe’s fastest-growing companies based on revenue.[5]
In 2020, the company secured an investment of £11 million from LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group.[6]
In 2021, the company opened a larger fulfilment centre in Brackmills, Northampton, replacing its original UK site. During the same year, Emma Dempsey was appointed as Chief Executive Officer.[7] This period marked a shift towards greater operational scaling and leadership transition.
2021 also saw further international expansion with the opening of a facility in Venlo, Netherlands, its first location in mainland Europe.[8] In 2022, a new site in Las Vegas, Nevada, was launched to enhance operational coverage across the western United States.[9]
The company continued its global growth in 2023 by establishing a fulfilment centre in Brisbane, Australia, supporting fulfilment across the Asia-Pacific region.[10] In 2024, it re-branded as J&J Global Fulfilment to reflect its expanded international footprint.[11] That same year, the company opened a new site in Toronto, Canada, further strengthening its presence in North America.[12]
