The International School of France, or Ermitage, is an international day and boarding school in Maisons-Laffitte, just outside Paris, France.[1] It was founded in 1941 by Anne-Marie Thommeret, a woman seeking to improve conditions of students during the Nazi occupation of France.[2] It offers an English bilingual education up to French Baccalaureate / International Baccalaureate (IB) level.[3]

The school's campus stretches across multiple buildings in Maisons-Laffitte, a great part of them located in the historical park area. Some of the principal locations include:[4]

  • 24 avenue Eglé (French bilingual middle school)
  • 18 rue des Côtes (French bilingual high school)

Academics and offerings

The school offers a day school with 5- and 7-day boarding houses.[5] Enrollment was 1500 students in 2022.[6] Student ages range from 21/2 (TPS) through 19 (Terminale, equivalent to Year 13 in Great Britain or grade 12 in the US).[7]

French Bilingual Program

Ermitage offers a French Bilingual Program leading to the French Baccalaureate with an international option (BFI). This program serves approximately 1,260 students aged 3 to 18 and in both French and English languages.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs

The school has a IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16 to 19. The IB section includes around 230 students, with an average class size of 15. Ermitage's IB students have achieved an average diploma score of 32.5.
