Previously, he was served as the 3rd vice regent of Gianyar from 2014 to 2018.

Controversies
[edit]Jokowi Rejection
[edit]On October 2023 Agus Mahayastra sent a message on the Whatsapp Group (WAG) of all village heads in Gianyar with the group name "Gianyar Aman".
He asked residents receiving the Family Hope Program (PKH) through the village heads not to attend to receive assistance from President Joko Widodo when the President visited Batubulan, Gianyar on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
However, Agus Mahayastra denied giving any direction. "Not a direction, but a request, because I am no longer his superior," he said briefly when asked for confirmation regarding the ongoing issue, Monday (6/11/2023).
There was a direction from the former Regent of Gianyar who is also the Head of the Gianyar PDIP DPC, Made Mahayastra, for residents not to attend President Joko Widodo's visit.
Although he admitted that Mahayastra in the WAG was himself, Mahayastra denied giving directions to the village heads so that PKH recipients would not attend the event to receive basic food packages from Jokowi.
Previously reported, the arrival of President Joko Widodo on a working visit to Gianyar Regency on Tuesday (31/10) received public attention.
The trigger was a viral video regarding the removal of billboards along the connecting road passed by the number 1 person in Indonesia. After clarification by the Acting. Governor of Bali, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya; accompanied by Pangdam IX/Udayana and the Bali Police Chief regarding the removal of the billboards, a message circulated from the WAG of the village heads/village heads with the group name "Gianyar Aman".
In the contents of the WAG conversation, Mahayastra asked all village heads so that recipients of the Family Hope Program (PKH) who were invited to Batubulan to receive basic food assistance from President Jokowi, do not attend the event. "Good morning village heads throughout Gianyar, if there are PKH recipients who are invited to Batubulan to receive basic food assistance today, please do not attend," wrote Mahayastra, Tuesday (10/31/2023) at 08.15 WITA. This sentence was immediately answered by several village heads, one of whom was village head I Wayan Warka by replying, "Good morning, always healthy, sir," marked with a thumbs up and greeting emoticon. Meanwhile, another village head with the initials MSS in the conversation also immediately answered frankly by saying in Balinese "Swastiastu rahajeng Bapak Bupati, Dumogi sehat lan rahayu" (Hello Mr. Regent, I hope you are always healthy and prosperous), wrote MSS.[5]
