History

[edit]

On March 13, 1954, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the Committee for State Security under the Council of Ministers of the USSR was established. In December 1957, in connection with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Cheka-KGB, a new badge "Honorary Officer of State Security" was approved to encourage generals, officers, and sergeants of the KGB bodies under the Council of Ministers of the USSR who excellently performed operational tasks, demonstrated high vigilance, initiative in their work, and exemplarily observed military discipline. The order establishing the badge was signed by the Chairman of the KGB, General of the Army I. A. Serov. The regulations for the badge stated that it "is an award for particularly distinguished employees of state security agencies." The last awards with this badge were made in 1991.[2]
