Helios is a Southeast Asia-based climate technology company that focuses on providing financing solutions for residential solar energy installations. Founded in 2023, the company operates primarily in the Philippines and works with local banks and solar providers to offer integrated solar financing options.

History

[edit]

Helios was established as part of Wavemaker Impact, a Singapore-based venture builder supporting startups that address climate-related challenges in Southeast Asia.[1] The company was co-founded by Hsin Yao Cheng and Alexander Aronson, both of whom have backgrounds in renewable energy and finance.

Solar Mortgage Program

[edit]

In 2023, Helios launched a solar mortgage program in partnership with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI). The program allows homeowners to include the cost of solar installations in their home loan packages, with financing amounts ranging from ₱400,000 to ₱10 million.[2]

In early 2024, the company announced a similar collaboration with Security Bank to expand access to solar financing solutions across the country.[3][4][5]

Partnerships

[edit]

Helios works with financial institutions such as BPI and Security Bank to incorporate solar energy costs into home financing products. It also collaborates with regional solar installation companies, including Solaric, Buskowitz, and SolarNRG, to facilitate the installation of solar PV systems. According to company partners, the installations typically include components sourced from manufacturers like LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd., with warranties averaging 25 years.[3][4][5]

Funding

[edit]

The company has received funding from Wavemaker Impact, a venture capital initiative that invests in early-stage climate tech startups across Southeast Asia.[6][7][1]
