U.S. Sanctions
[edit]On February 24, 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), imposed sanctions on Hamid Bovard, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). The sanctions were imposed under Executive Order 13902, due to his role in Iran's oil sector, which contributes to financing Iran's regional military activities and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Qods Force (IRGC-QF) operations. As a result of the sanctions, all assets and interests of Bovard under U.S. jurisdiction were blocked, and U.S. citizens are prohibited from engaging in transactions with him. Furthermore, any entity that is 50% or more owned by Bovard is also considered blocked.[2]
