Goeppertia majestica (syn. Calathea majestica), the majestic prayer plant, is a species of flowering plant in the family Marantaceae. It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, and northern Brazil,[2] and has been introduced to Venezuela.[1]
In the Amazon, the leaves of G. majestica (referred to as Calathea gigas) are traditionally used for lining baskets for holding fish, and as thatch.[3]
As an ornamental, G. majestica has attractive foliage and can be grown both indoors and in outdoor gardens.[4][5] A large member of its genus, it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[6]
