Gideon Silva was a Uruguayan footballer who played as a midfielder for Peñarol and Uruguay. He played 8 games for the Uruguay national team.[1]

Silva played in the center for Peñarol, but on the right for Uruguay in a line of midfielders known as the "iron curtain", with Olympic champion Álvaro Gestido on the left, and their leader Lorenzo Fernández at center half.[2] He was nicknamed "Tatita" (little father) for his calm play, good tackling, and passing style.

Silva was a member of the Uruguayan national team. From his debut on 25 November 1923 until his last deployment on 17 November 1929, he played eight international matches. Silva was part of the Uruguay squad at the 1929 South American Championship in Argentina, where Uruguay took third place out of four participating teams. In the course of the tournament, he played in all three matches.

On the club level, he was used by the Montevideaners up to and including the 1927 season in the position of center half and was a regular player. In the seasons of 1928 to 1930, he shared the role of right half with Carlos Riolfo. In 1931 he competed there with Luis Mainardi.[3] In his last year with the Aurinegros, he moved back to the central half position, where he fought with Lorenzo Fernández for a place in the starting eleven. He won the Uruguayan championship with Peñarol in 1928, 1929, and 1932. Of note, Peñarol's championship win in 1924 was under the auspices of the Federación Uruguaya de Fútbol (FUF), which organized a parallel championship during the split of the federation structures in Uruguay. The 1926 Peñarol championship win was played after the reunification. However, neither the 1924 or 1926 championships are currently recognized as official.
