The Gansu Provincial People's Government is the local administrative agency of Gansu. It is officially elected by the Gansu Provincial People's Congress and is formally responsible to the Gansu Provincial People's Congress and its Standing Committee . Under the country's one-party system, the governor is subordinate to the secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. The Provincial government is headed by a governor, currently Ren Zhenhe.[1]
History
[edit]After the Battle of Lanzhou in August 1949, the People's Liberation Army captured Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. On December 2, the fourth meeting of the Central People's Government approved the list of members of the Gansu Provincial People's Government. On December 9, Wang Zhiqi, the chairman of the Gansu Provincial Government and the commander of the 119th Army of the National Army, and Jiang Yuntai, the deputy commander, announced the "uprising" in Wudu County. The government of the People's Republic of China took over the entire Gansu Province.[2]
On January 8, 1950, the Gansu Provincial People's Government was formally established. In October 1958, it was renamed the Gansu Provincial People's Committee. In 1968, it was renamed the Gansu Provincial Revolutionary Committee. In November 1979, the Gansu Provincial Revolutionary Committee was abolished and the Gansu Provincial People's Government was re-established.[3]
