Frederick William Spurgin

Frederick William Spurgin (1837 – 26 October 1930) was an English surgeon.

Life

Born in Harlow, Essex, he attended Mercers' School and an apprenticeship with his uncle Charles Spurgin before studying at the Middlesex Hospital, where he later became resident surgeon. He was also casualty surgeon at Poplar Hospital before moving to Cavendish Square in 1869 to start a private practice. He also become (for forty-seven years) divisional surgeon to the Metropolitan Police in the Marylebone area, being called at the inquest into the Harley Street Mystery.[1] His son Percy Bertram Spurgin (1874-1963) was also a surgeon.[2]
