Ford Amphitheater, formerly the Sunset Amphitheater, is an 8,000 person capacity open-air concert venue in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that opened on August 6, 2024.[1]

History

[edit]

Colorado Springs already has an extensive history of being a musical destination, especially in the 1960s and 1970s; however, by the late 1990s and early 2000s many of these larger venues would close due to declining sales leaving only smaller clubs.[2] The venue was the long-term project of JW Roth, a Colorado Springs native and the CEO of the hospitality company Notes Live (later renamed Venu) who also began work on similar facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia.[3] The theater had the name Sunset Amphitheater while it was being constructed, with the Ford motor company buying the naming rights shortly before its opening.[3][4] The city has been supportive of the Amphitheater, seeing it as a way to attract bigger names to perform in the city.[2] The "soft opening" show at the Amphitheater was on August 6, 2024 and was a performance by Cage the Elephant, with its "grand opening" being a sold out run by OneRepublic from the 9th to the 11th.[2][3]
