Evin Ahmad (Kurdish: ئەڤین ئەحمەد; born 8 June 1990) is a Swedish actress and author. She has been nominated twice for Guldbagge Awards.[1]
Early life
[edit]Ahmad was born on 8 June 1990 in Stockholm, Sweden and grew up in the Akalla district of Stockholm, where she lived for 22 years. Her parents are Kurdish with her mother being from Afrin, Syria and her father, an actor from Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.[2]
Career
[edit]Ahmad studied at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.[3] She made her screen debut in 2007 with a film adaptation of Jonas Hassen Khemiri's novel One Eye Red.[4]
In 2017, she played the lead role in Beyond Dreams, for which she was awarded the Silver Leaf for Best Actress at the Duhok International Film Festival.[5][6]
She gained recognition in 2019 for her roles in the Danish post-apocalyptic series The Rain and the Swedish crime drama Quicksand.[7]
Ahmad gained wider recognition in 2021 with her portrayal of Leya, the lead character in the Netflix original series Snabba Cash.[8]
In early 2022, Ahmad was cast in the lead role for the Netflix production Who Is Erin Carter?. It was her first major English-language role.[9] The series aired worldwide in late August 2023.[10][11]
Personal life
