Emille Bartolome Joson is a Filipino independent filmmaker. Her films center on social justice and women’s rights.

Joson was involved in award-winning independent films Sakaling Hindi Makarating, The Comeback, My Second Mom, Pagari: Mohammad Abdullah,[1] and Adivino. Advino gained renewed attention and streaming during the #MeToo movement.[1]

Career

Prior to her independent filmmaking career, Joson briefly worked at ABS-CBN.[2] Her short film Adivino (2011), produced during her time at the Asia Pacific Film Institute, was screened under the Student Short Film category of the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival.[3] Adivino was later noted for its exploration of gender and power dynamics.[4]

Advocacy

Joson has been involved in advocacy work through the family-based Alaga Producers Cooperative. According to Malaya Business Insight, she has advocated for attention to topics such as government corruption, marginalized communities, and violence against women.[5]
