Draft Feedback 1/11/24

[edit]
@LIUCGiorgio, MyrtheLiucT2, LIUCChia.05, LIUCHéloïse2, LiucRiky, LIUCMaxiTeam2, and LIUCandyGroup02:
  • Note the header and footer markup code and create draft content between these two page elements. You need to move the markup for the draft page banner from the bottom back to the top of the page. The markup to move is for this banner: AfC submission|t||ts=20241025142410|u=MyrtheLiucT2|ns=118|demo=}}
  • Note the 10 edit reverts for copyright violations made on 25/10/24 by User:Nthep, and the reasons why
  • Ref. 1 is to a thesis. Use the correct markup format for this type of source. Look at ref. 3 and See: Template:Cite_thesis
  • Use the correct reference format for all sources, not just URLs. specifically:
  • reference the actual secondary source, not just where you found it (e.g. 'google books'. In this case, the source reference is to: The Contemporary Singer: Elements of Vocal Technique De Anne Peckham
  • remove and avoid text like 'Information from sources for in the article:'
  • note the guidelines and good practice on lead sections, look at other pages and remove 'Introduction' for the Lead Section. See: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. Use this to develop this section, which does not include things like 'History' at this point. The lead has no heading. See also Wikipedia:Writing_better_articles#Lead_section.
  • Topic title: you use Contemporary Vocal Technique in the content, but the draft page title is Contemporary vocal technique. Be consistent
  • include the accroymn (CVT) where relevant in the lead section
  • structure: many of the surrent headings are Sections rather than the current sub-section headings.
  • Infobox: there are 4 ways to resolve this:
    • find a relevant Infobox template, if it exists, and use this
    • find a similar page with a relevant Infobox, and use this
    • don't use an Infobox, as on some similar pages e.g. Yodeling, Ululation, Extended vocal technique, etc.
    • create a custom Infobox template, which will then be available for other similar pages. See: Help:Designing infoboxes
  • the content needs a clear definition that explains it's difference to similar topics, including Extended vocal technique, Belting (music), etc.
  • Images: consider sourcing relevant images on the physiology of the topic and look at similar pages e.g. Belting (music), etc.
  • Linking: this topic has a wide range of potential links which need to be identified and organized. They include: links in text, See Also links, and External links. Understand the differences in these 3 types, avoid duplication, and collate the options for each. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking
  • Note the following edit: "Contemporay vocal technique has been widely used internationally in a range of vocal pedagogy contexts, including the training and education of choirs and choral ensembles.[3][4]".
    • it uses the correct reference format for a thesis
    • it includes 2 authorative references
    • it embeds a link out to a relevant existing page for this section
    • it uses the following link markup to remove a grammatical error in the linked text to create a piped link: vocal pedagogy, not Vocal pedagogy (the title of the linked page). See: Wikipedia:Piped_link
  • reference all content. The first paragraph and a later single sentence have no sources

Is this an actual recognized and definable term? I don't think so.

[edit]

@Limelightangel and User:MyrtheLiucT2 I'm not sure "Contemporary vocal technique" is a widely acknowledged term or phrase in the literature with a uniform meaning. The authors of the book and journal articles in question used in this article are referring to teaching technique for contemporary commercial music (CCM), and seems to be using the turn of phrase to simply refer to vocal technique as it used in in CCM. However, in looking at google books, "contemporary vocal technique" is also used to refer to a type of vocal technique used in contemporary classical music literature such as 20th century and 21st century operas and in the orchestral and chamber group concert literature of a particular type; differentiating a current approach to vocal technique as opposed to 18th and 19th century vocal pedagogy models. Those are clearly not CCM genre works, and are squarely within classical vocal music. The Grove Book of Opera Singers for example covers this view of the term as written about in journal articles by Jane Manning.

So... I'm not really sure this is the best title for this article because "contemporary vocal technique" can mean different things in different publications. I would think something like Vocal technique in contemporary commercial music or Vocal pedagogy in contemporary commercial music would be more appropriate. I note the CCM article already has some sections on this (logically as CCM is the term used by voice teachers who teach in this area), so this draft may in fact be a WP:CFORK of that page.4meter4 (talk) 17:15, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
