Submission declined on 15 June 2025 by Ktkvtsh (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.

YuanYuan Zhang (Chinese: 张媛媛) is a Chinese ballet dancer and principal dancer with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. Since joining the company in 2014, she has performed leading roles in both classical and contemporary repertoire.
Early life and education
[edit]Zhang was born in Korla, Xinjiang, and began training in traditional Chinese dance at age six. She later studied at the Sichuan Dance School in Chengdu and at age 16 continued her ballet education at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where she developed a strong interest in Western classical ballet.[1]

Career
[edit]In 2014, Zhang won the gold medal at the South African International Ballet Competition, which led to her joining the Dutch National Ballet Junior Company later that year.[1]
She progressed through the ranks: élève (2015), corps de ballet (2016), coryphée (2017), grand sujet (2018), and soloist (2019).[1] In December 2024, she was promoted to principal dancer.[2][3] Making her one of the few Chinese dancers to reach that rank abroad. [4][5][6][7]

Repertoire and critical reception
[edit]Zhang has danced many principal roles, including:
- Swan Lake
- The Sleeping Beauty
- Clara in The Nutcracker and the Mouse King
- Romeo and Juliet
- Works by George Balanchine, David Dawson, Wayne McGregor, and William Forsythe
Her performances have garnered attention from dance critics:
- A 2015 review in Bachtrack praised her portrayal of Odette as “graceful and vulnerable.”[8]
- In a 2021 gala performance, her duet in Replay was described as “consuming in its intensity.”[9]
- A 2023 review of Forsythe’s Blake Works I highlighted her among the cast as contributing to the performance’s cohesion.[10]
