Yomiuri Chukyo FS Broadcasting Holdings Corporation (読売中京FSホールディングス株式会社, Yomiuri Chūkyō FS hōrudingusu kabushiki-gaisha; FYCS) is a Japanese media holding company headquartered in Minato, Tokyo. The company consists of four television broadcasters affiliated with the Nippon News Network and the Nippon Television Network System these being: Osaka-based Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation in the Kansai region, Nagoya-based Chūkyō Television Broadcasting in the Chukyo Metropolitan Area, Fukuoka Broadcasting System in Fukuoka Prefecture and The Sapporo Television Broadcasting (including STVradio) in Hokkaido. The company was formed on April 1, 2025 with the merger of Yomiuri TV, Chukyo TV, FBS and STV, marking the second holding company to be formed via a stock transfer, the first being TV Tokyo Holdings with its operations, including its corporate functions being intact, rather than a full restructuring of either four broadcasters.[1] The company is partially controlled by Nippon Television Holdings, which owns 20% of the company's shares.

FYCS became the first holding company to be formed by a merger of four core broadcasters, including two region-wide stations based in Osaka and Nagoya without any involvement from the flagship station.[2] This was also the first media holding company to be established following amendments to the Broadcasting Act of 1950 [ja], which included a 2022 proposal to abolish restrictions on management by holding companies and deregulating station management alongside sharing content produced by commercial broadcasters to other broadcasters in multiple prefectures which was approved by the following year.[3]

History

Formation

[edit]

On November 29, 2024, NTVHD announced that four NNN/NNS affiliates, Yomiuri TV, Chukyo TV, FBS and STV would form a holding company with the purpose of its formation being that the broadcasters have cooperated in the past on multiple projects as well as media diversification. NTVHD would own a 20% stake in the company while the company's president Akira Ishizawa [ja] would step down from both NTV and NTVHD on January of the following year to become president of FYCS while Chukyo TV chairman Kimio Maruyama would become chairman. The combined company would have shared resources between the four broadcasters, such as the planning and production of programs between the four, and would expand beyond broadcasting, such as participating in app development and sharing core systems to reduce costs.[4][5] Following Ishizawa's exit from NTV, Hiroyuki Fukuda [ja] became president of NTV and NTVHD beginning on January 1, 2025 which was announced 19 days later.[6] On December 6th of that year, Chukyo TV on behalf of all four broadcasters, submitted an application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for certification as a broadcast holding company.[7] On December 24th of that year, the merger was approved by the four broadcasters' shareholders.[8] On March 7, 2025, the Radio Regulatory Council submitted a report approving the establishment of FYCS.[9][10] Four days later, the companies received certification from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and received establishment approval.[11] Following its establishment, the first program produced by all four stations following the merger, Mirai hito ni nokoshitai! Furusato Taimuresu Kapuseru (未来人に残したい!ふるさとタイムレスカプセル), hosted by Timelesz aired on all four broadcasters on June 29th of that year.[12]
