Yogesh Rai (Yogi)
[edit]Yogesh Rai, known professionally as Yogi, is a New Zealand–based Punjabi-language musician originally from Punjab, India. He is part of Aotearoa's growing Punjabi music scene, which blends elements of hip hop, bhangra, reggae, and traditional Punjabi music.
Early life and career
[edit]Rai migrated to New Zealand around 2012. Before beginning his music career, he worked as a courier driver. He began recording music after being invited to a recording session following a delivery.
Music and influence
[edit]Yogi is known for his Punjabi-language songs and for representing the bicultural identity of young Punjabi New Zealanders. He is associated with the NZ-based label Big Shot Vibes, which helped launch his music career.

[edit]In May 2025, Yogi received a grant of NZ$11,000 from NZ On Air through its New Music Pan‑Asian initiative to produce his Punjabi-language single "Billiyian Akhiyan".[1]
He was featured in a 11th July 2025 RNZ article highlighting New Zealand’s Punjabi music scene.[2]
