Draft:Westerly Cable Television, Inc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Westerly Cable Television, Inc, was an American Cable television provider, based in Westerly, Rhode Island. The company was founded by George L. Sisson, and was Rhode Island's first cable television provider, [1] The company was founded on March 12, 1965, almost two months before Full Channel. The company sometime after became part of Colony Communications, owned by The Providence Journal. In 1995, Boston-based Continental Cablevision acquired The Providence Journal's Cable Television assets for $1.4 billion dollars.[2] Continental Cablevision renamed itself to MediaOne in 1996. In August 1999, Cox Communications traded MediaOne systems in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Cox systems in Massachusetts became part of MediaOne, while MediaOne systems in Rhode Island and Connecticut, including the former Westerly Cable Television became part of Cox[3]. In 2000, MediaOne became part of AT&T, and in 2002 AT&T Broadband became part of Comcast.
