West Vistula (West Vistulan: Zahódńja Wisła) is a fictional cultural and linguistic region located in what is today the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland. It was created as the imagined homeland of the Zahódnjo-Wisłewski language, a constructed West Slavic language. The region includes a number of real villages and towns reimagined with names in the Zahódnjo-Wisłewski language, and it is meant to represent a distinct Slavic identity, rooted mostly in Polish but with some influence from Slovak, Upper Sorbian, and Silesian.

Geography

[edit]

The fictional region of West Vistula lies west of the Vistula River, centered primarily around the Gmina Czernichów in Kraków County.

Main villages of West Vistula include:

Culture and Language

[edit]

West Vistula is most notable for its association with the Zahódnjo-Wisłewski language, a conlang created by a Polish speaker to simulate a natural regional Slavic language. It draws approximately 80% of its vocabulary and grammar from Polish, with remaining influence from Slovak, Upper Sorbian, and Silesian. The language has its own alphabet, orthography, and grammar rules, and has seen usage in fictional place names, flags, and texts.
