War 2 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji from a screenplay written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala. Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, the film stars Hrithik Roshan, N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Kiara Advani. It is the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, sequel to War (2019) and the Hindi debut of N. T. Rama Rao Jr. It is the 6th film in Spy universe After Tiger 3.

War 2 is scheduled to be released on 14 August 2025, coinciding with the Independence Day.[2]

Prior to the release of War in late 2019, it was reported that the producers, Yash Raj Films, were planning on making a sequel to the film, with both lead actors Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff reprising their roles, but was depending on the film's success.[6] After the release of the film, when director Siddharth Anand was asked about a sequel, he stated that "It’s too early to talk about it, but I definitely had an idea to convert this into a franchise."[7][8] On his birthday in March 2021, Tiger hinted that a sequel would begin production.[9] Siddharth, during an interview with MidDay the following October, announced that filming would begin the following year, confirming the sequel.[10] In early April 2023, however, Ayan Mukerji was reportedly approached to replace Siddharth.[11] On 4 April, Yash Raj Films announced the project as the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe titled War 2. Mukerji was confirmed to direct the film, replacing Siddharth.[12] This marks Mukerji's first venture to not be produced by Dharma Productions. On 6 April 2023, Hrithik Roshan announced that he would reprise his role as Kabir Dhaliwal. N. T. Rama Rao Jr. was cast as the antagonist, marking his debut in Hindi cinema.[3] On 16 June 2023, Kiara Advani joined the cast.[13] Ashutosh Rana reprises his role from War and Pathaan.[14]

Filming

The first schedule of War 2 took place in Madrid featuring stunt doubles, due to the lead actors having schedules in Hyderabad and Mumbai for Fighter and Devara respectively. A car chase sequence choreographed by Spiro Razatos, was shot in the localities of Salamanca.[15]

The second schedule commenced in the first week of December 2023 in Abu Dhabi where a boat chase sequence choreographed by Franz Spilhaus, was shot with stunt doubles. Additional action sequences were also filmed at the Yas Marina Circuit.[16]

On 7 March 2024, Hrithik Roshan began shooting his introductory sequence at the YRF Studios in Mumbai. A set resembling a Japanese monestry was built where a katana sequence featuring Roshan were shot.[17] NTR joined production on 12 April 2024.[18] On the same day, an aeriel action sequence featuring NTR and Roshan was filmed while it was choreographed by Franz Spilhaus and Sunil Rodrigues.[19] A set of an aircraft interior and exterior were created in Vile Parle.[20] An action sequence set on a moving train was also shot. Later filming also took place at Infiniti Mall, Malad.

In September 2024, Roshan shot for few scenes at Siena, followed by a romantic track featuring Roshan and Advani was shot in Rome in Italy.

[21] In October 2024, NTR shot for his introductory action sequence. A set of a ship was created at YRF Studios. Climax sequence was shot in December featuring Roshan and NTR.[5]

In February 2025, filming took place in Austria where some vfx shots were taken by the cinematography team.

Soundtrack

The music of the film is composed by Pritam.[22] Background scores are composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara.

Release

War 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on 14 August 2025.[2][23]
