Vietcombank Fund Management Company (VCBF) is a joint venture between Vietcombank[1][2]and global investment firm Franklin Templeton[3][4][5][6]. Founded in 2005 and based in Hanoi, VCBF manages assets for both institutional and individual investors through open-ended funds, pension funds, and assest management.[7]

History

VCBF was founded in December 2005 as a joint venture between Vietcombank and Viet Capital Holdings[1][8][9][10], with its first open-ended fund, VPF1, launched at the same time[11]. A year later, the company expanded to Ho Chi Minh City and received approval from Vietnam’s State Securities Commission to manage offshore funds.[12][13]

In 2007, VCBF continued to grow, introducing two more funds VPF2 in January and VPF3 in September adding more choices for local investors.[14][15]

In 2008, Franklin Templeton acquired Viet Capital Holdings’ stake[8][9][10], setting up the ownership structure that’s still in place today. That move also brought international investment expertise into VCBF.

By 2009, the company landed its first asset management mandate.[16][17] Over the next few years, it continued to grow. In 2013, VCBF launched its first open-ended fund, the Tactical Balanced Fund (VCBF-TBF),[18][19][20][21] followed by the Blue Chip Fund (VCBF-BCF) in 2014.[22][23]

VCBF kept expanding. In 2019, the firm launched its ETRADE platform[24][25] and added the Fixed Income Fund (VCBF-FIF)[26][27] to its lineup. A couple of years later, VCBF introduced the Midcap Growth Fund (VCBF-MGF)[28][29]. 2022 was a big year that the company rolled out its mobile app  and got licensed to manage voluntary pension funds.[30][31][32][33]

Not long after, it began offering pension products, starting with the VCBF Balanced Pension Fund .[18] Then in 2024, VCBF moved forward with an IPO for the Active Income Fund (VCBF-AIF), which officially launched in February 2025.[34][35][36]

VCBF has 5 open-ended funds focused on equities, fixed income, and balanced portfolios.[37][38][39][40]That's include:

The company also manages pension funds,VCBF Balanced Pension Fund and VCBF Capital Preservation Pension Fund. Additionally, VCBF provides customized portfolio management services for corporate institutions, high-net-worth individuals, and small- to medium-sized enterprises.[44][47]

Mergers and acquisitions

One of the firm’s most important milestones came in February 2008, when Franklin Templeton Investments acquired a 49% stake from Viet Capital Holdings[16][17]. This deal cemented the joint venture setup with Vietcombank and brought in global investment experience to strengthen VCBF’s operations. Since then, there haven’t been any other mergers or acquisitions.
