As part of the Karur district, it lies in a region characterized by lime stones with dry weather and Velliyanai periya kulam reservoir and well irrigation is the source for the water.

The Kalyana Venkataramanan Temple[6] at Thanthonimalai, a significant religious site, is located in the vicinity of Valiyam Pudur within the Thanthoni block. Pasupateeswarar Temple, Karur located near Karur bus stand one of the seven Sivastalams.
