Tulipop is a children's entertainment brand and animated television series from Iceland. It was founded in 2010 by Signý Kolbeinsdóttir and Helga Árnadóttir. The series is produced by Tulipop Studios, an independent studio based in Reykjavík, Iceland.[1]

Setting and Characters

Tulipop takes place on a fictional island with varied environments such as forests and meadows. The characters each have distinct personalities intended to appeal to preschool audiences. These include:

Tulipop draws inspiration from Icelandic landscapes and folklore. The setting was designed to reflect a balance of whimsy and natural beauty. Tulipop Tales (2022-)

The series comprises 52 stand-alone episodes, each approximately 7 minutes in length. The stories are episodic and non-linear, focusing on themes such as friendship, emotions, and teamwork. Episodes vary in setting and character focus, showcasing different corners of the Tulipop island.[3]

The series was produced by Tulipop Studios and has been picked up by several international broadcasters.[4]

Tulipop Seasons (2025–)

This upcoming project includes three 30-minute specials, each with a seasonal theme: A Midwinter Tale, Pumpkin Pip, and Whoosh!. The specials are co-produced with The Animation Band (Italy) and 2D Workshop (Scotland), and are commissioned by the Nordic public broadcasters, RÚV (Iceland), NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland), DR (Denmark) and SVT (Sweden).

Tulipop has secured licensing partnerships and television distribution across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Notably, Booster Milano represents the brand in Italy across publishing and consumer goods. MBC is handling licensing for the Middle East.[8]

Original music is featured throughout the series. The brand has released soundtrack albums in multiple languages on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Digital Platforms

Tulipop maintains official YouTube channels in multiple languages, including English, Icelandic, French, and Italian, featuring over 370 videos and 140 shorts. In addition to full episodes, content includes singalongs, storytime, and educational segments. Tulipop also distributes content through platforms like Kidoodle.TV and Zone·tv.[9]

Tulipop products are sold through the company’s official online store and at selected retailers, including bookstores, toy shops, and design boutiques in Iceland and abroad. Items have also appeared in airport shops and concept stores, especially in Northern Europe.[10]

Awards

In 2013, Tulipop won the "Encouragement Award", awarded by FKA, The Association of Women Business Leaders in Iceland. The company also received "Start-up of the Year 2015" from Viðskiptablaðið. In addition, Tulipop was shortlisted for the Best Interiors Collection Junior Design Award 2014.[11] It was awarded "Best Newcomer" at the Smallish Design Awards 2015[12] and was nominated for a LIMA award in 2018.[13]
