Thiban (also credited as Tiban) is a Malaysian music composer, producer, and sound designer known for his genre-blending compositions across Tamil, English, Arabic, and Indian classical music. He is the founder of the independent label Acoustical Recordz and has collaborated with legendary singers such as S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and P. Unnikrishnan.
In 2021, he received the Raj Narain Ji Visual Media Award for his composition Ponnin Chingam at an international ceremony in Trivandrum, Kerala.
Early Life and Career
[edit]Thiban began his musical journey in the early 2000s as a sound engineer and independent composer. His first breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of Oru Kathal Kathai, a Tamil love song that gained popularity in the Malaysian Indian music scene.[1]
He later released his own album DiscoverME, highlighting his blend of traditional South Indian melodies with orchestral and electronic elements. He also supports young artists through his label Acoustical Recordz.
Musical Style
[edit]Thiban’s works often fuse Carnatic and Hindustani classical with world music, Sufi, R&B, and electronic genres. He has composed devotional, cinematic, and wedding-themed songs, and collaborated on Arabic-English fusion projects.
