The Mimic is an anthology-style survival horror game[3] released in January 2021, published and developed by CTStudios,[4] on the gaming and game development platform Roblox. As of June 2025, The Mimic has reached over 1 billion visits and boasts a record of over around 50 thousand concurrent players. Set in Japan, the game revolves around four books, each with distinct storylines and unique antagonists.[5][6]
Gameplay
[edit]The Mimic combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival horror elements.[7] Players navigate as different characters through eerie environments, avoiding entities and solving mysteries that are inspired by Japanese folklore,[2][8] with high-quality visuals.[7][9] Characters vary, from evil entities to friendly entities,[10] they are usually distributed into one of four books.[11][12][13] Allyson Cochran, writing for The Gamer, applauded the game's "astonishingly impressive graphics", further elaborating that it would "leave you questioning if you've stumbled upon a Roblox game at all".[14]
Reception
[edit]Logan Gilchrist of Dot Esports highlighted the game's depth, stating it offers more story than the average Roblox horror game. The Mimic was nominated for "Best Sound Design," in the 2024 Roblox Innovation Awards,[15][16] and later "Best Horror" in the 2024 Roblox Innovation Awards.[17] The game was a participant in the first edition of The Hunt that took place during March 2024.[18]
