Submission declined on 12 March 2025 by Flat Out (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Submission declined on 23 October 2024 by RangersRus (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by RangersRus 8 months ago. | ![]() |
Comment: Does not meet notability criteria at WP:PROF or WP:GNG and most of the sources are unreliable. Please note that announcements and PR releases do not support the notability of a subject Flat Out (talk) 03:13, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Dr. Tharupathi Munasinghe is a Sri Lankan ethnomusicologist, composer and sound designer. The Sunday Times describes him as a “veteran musician and aesthetic lecturer” who has published work on Sri Lankan sound studies[1]. As of 2018 he was serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Kelaniya and pursuing a PhD at Deakin University, Australia [1]. He has composed music for Sri Lankan films and stage productions (for example, the film Amawaka and Ariyaratne Athugala’s musical Maha Supina) [1].
Academic Contributions
[edit]Munasinghe’s academic work centers on sound and ethnomusicology. His Sinhala-language book Nada Sankathana (“Essays on Sound and Music”) is a collection of research articles on audio media and sound design in cinema . Similarly, his English-language book Sound Studies: With Special Reference to Sri Lankan Sonic Experience gathers ethnomusicological essays on Sri Lankan musical traditions (notably the low country drum) and new paradigms in sound design for storytelling . These scholarly volumes (published in 2017) include extensive bibliographies and frame Sri Lanka’s sonic heritage in an academic context.[1]
Media Coverage
[edit]Munasinghe has been profiled in Sri Lankan media. For example, a 2018 Sunday Times magazine article featured his launch of two sound studies books, noting his dual role as musician and lecturer [1]. More recently, the Sinhala daily Lankadeepa covered the planned 2024 launch of his book Shabdha Manavavanshawadaya (“Sound Anthropology”) [2]. Such independent coverage in major newspapers attests to significant attention on his work (beyond any self-published sources).

(The official announcement lists him as a “Music” awardee among five Sri Lankan artists .) He has also received Sri Lankan awards in music and literature (for example, a Raigam Tele’es award for best TV music direction and a State Literary Award for academic writing, as reported in press), indicating national recognition of his contributions.
