Temo Rekhviashvili (born May 10, 1993, in Tbilisi) is a Georgian writer, playwright, and actor. He is best known for his novel Courier's Tales, which won the SABA Literary Award for Best Debut in 2022, and for his leading role in the internationally recognized short film Temo Re (2025). He is the co-founder of experimental theatre groups and a poetic collective.
Early life and education
[edit]Temo Rekhviashvili graduated from Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University in 2015 with a degree in drama and film acting. From 2019 to 2021, he studied dramaturgy in the studio of the renowned Georgian theatre director Temur Chkheidze.
Literature
[edit]In 2021, Rekhviashvili published Courier's Tales, a semi-autobiographical book based on his experiences working as a deliveryman in Tbilisi. The book became a bestseller in Georgia. In 2022, it was awarded the prestigious SABA Literary Award for Best Debut. He is also the author of the play Pathetic Monologues (2023), which the EUROPHALIA Festival in Belgium supported. A public reading took place in Antwerp in December 2023, while the official stage premiere was held at Theatre Company Haraki in Tbilisi later that year.
Rekhviashvili is the co-founder of the poetry collective UADP (Universally Accessible Dramatic Poetry), together with Gvantsa Enukidze, active since 2017.
Theatre
[edit]He has worked as an actor and writer in both state and independent theatres in Georgia, including the Rustavi Municipal Theatre, Kote Marjanishvili State Academic Drama Theatre, and Theatre Company Haraki. He has performed in works by Shakespeare, Heiner Müller, Yasmina Reza, Maurice Maeterlinck, and contemporary Georgian authors. He co-founded "Open Space for Experimental Art" in 2016 and Theatre Company Haraki in 2019.
Film
[edit]Rekhviashvili has appeared in several films. Notably, he played the lead role in the 2024 film Temo Re, based on his book Courier's Tales, directed by Anka Gujabidze. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2025, where it won two awards: the Tiger Short Competition Award and the KNF Award, presented by the Circle of Dutch Film Journalists. Other films include A Long Break (2022), Natia (2017), and The Box (2015).
