Tejaswi Priyadarshi (17.07.1991/Patna) is an Indian author, innovating the splatterpunk horror genre in India´s literary world. His debut novel The Psychopath, The Cannibal, The Lover, is a critically acclaimed work published in July 2020.[1] He won the HWA Diversity Grant in 2020 for it.[2] He has both an educational and professional background in computer science and digital marketing besides writing.
Writing Career
[edit]Tejaswi has had an interest in the horror genre early in his life already. He spent most of his free time delving into horror and noir themed literature. Writing had been a hobby since he was a child, but he started to pursue it more seriously as a young adult, by writing horror movie reviews or articles for pro-environmental organisations.[3] His primary sources for new ideas come from observing the people and places around himself, and often uses geographic indications and satirical elements to layer in with horror and noir. His stories include many plot twists, graphic descriptions, and thorough research in psychology to build and guide his characters. He draws inspiration primarily from authors like Stephen King and Michael Crichton, and filmmakers such as Takashi Miike, Alexandre Aja, Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino and the Ramsay Brothers.[4] He started to write his debut novel, The Psychopath, The Cannibal, The Lover in 2015 already, but it was only published five years later in 2020. At first he only created the first chapter, then proceeded to pick up and drop the project multiple times before finishing the manuscript in 2020. After publishing companies initially rejected the manuscript he self-published on Amazon, where the book was met with high ratings from readers and landed on multiple bestselling lists. This was the only book where he went through the entire life-cycle of publishing by himself.[3] His second book is titled Bhang Milkha Bhang: Cannabis Saves Lives, published in August 2021,[5] and his third is Berserk, published in March 2025.[6] Both novels received high ratings on multiple literary pages.
