Taona Oswald Chipunza (born 12 December 1996), known professionally as Teemak, is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur and music promoter. He became publicly known in early 2020 through his involvement in artist management and a business venture called Maximus Capital. He has also worked in financial consulting and been the subject of media reporting concerning investor disputes. In 2025, he returned to music with an independently released EP.
Early life
[edit]Chipunza was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He moved to Malaysia at the age of 13, where he completed both secondary and tertiary education. His early exposure to music included a collaborative album recorded with his mother in 2005. She passed away in 2012.[1]
Career
[edit]Financial consulting and business activity
[edit]Before launching his own venture, Chipunza worked in financial consulting, reportedly selling high-value investment products in the United Kingdom market.[2] In 2018, he established Maximus Capital, described as a private fund involved in forex trading. According to local media, the fund attracted investors from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
In 2020, Zimbabwean outlets such as Nehanda Radio and Zim Morning Post reported on investor complaints regarding unrecovered funds connected to Maximus Capital.[3][4] In April 2024, The Herald (South Africa) published a report identifying a Zimbabwean businessman sought in connection with a suspected fraud scheme. Although Chipunza's name was not listed in court documents, the report stated that he matched the profile.[5]
In a 2025 interview with The Herald (Zimbabwe), Chipunza said the company had collapsed due to mismanagement and inexperience. He denied involvement in any legal proceedings or active warrants.[6]
Artist management
[edit]In 2020, Chipunza signed a management deal with Zimdancehall musician Enzo Ishall. The agreement reportedly included accommodation, transport, and a monthly stipend valued at over US$100,000.[7]
That same year, his company TeeMak Promotions signed Zimbabwean R&B artist Takudzwa "Takue" Ncube. According to a report by Zimbuzz, Takue was discovered through a public talent search conducted on Chipunza’s Facebook page. His early releases included the single "My Lover" and a soundtrack contribution to the film Baba NaMai BB – Life After Divorce.[8]
Media and reality television
[edit]Chipunza also announced a reality TV concept titled One House Zimbabwe, which was intended as a local version of the Big Brother format. According to reports in The Herald and The Chronicle, the show faced regulatory delays and did not air.[9][10]
Music
[edit]Teemak released a music project titled Songs of Love in 2020. In April 2025, he released a six-track extended play titled Mavambo, which received coverage in Zimbabwean entertainment outlets. The visuals for the project were filmed in Nigeria.[11][12]
Recognition
[edit]While living in Malaysia, Chipunza received the Osiris International Talent Award in 2016.[1] His single "Heaven & Hell" reportedly reached number one on the Zambezi Magic Zim Top 10 chart, where it remained for several weeks.[13]
Media appearances
[edit]Teemak has appeared on Zimbabwean platforms including Star FM.[14]
Personal life
[edit]He is the son of Bishop Oliver Chipunza, founder of Apostolic Flame Ministries. His sister, Namatai Chipunza, has also been publicly mentioned in media reports.[1]
